A GLN (Global Location Number) is 13 digits, for example 8712423029279. We validate the GS1 check digit and look the number up in the Peppol directory. Press Enter to check.

GLN ownership records are maintained by GS1. For authoritative company data behind a GLN, see Verified by GS1.

GLN questions, answered

What is a GLN code?

A GLN (Global Location Number) is a 13-digit number issued by GS1 that identifies a company, a site or a delivery point: a GS1 company prefix, a location reference and a check digit. One company can hold many GLNs, one per warehouse, store or billing address.

What is the difference between a GLN and a VAT number?

A VAT number is a tax identifier issued by the tax authority. A GLN is a logistics identifier issued by GS1. Both can serve as a Peppol address: the VAT number under a national scheme, the GLN under scheme 0088. Retail, healthcare and logistics mostly use GLNs; most other businesses use the VAT or company register number.

What does "registered on Peppol" mean here?

The GLN is listed in the Peppol directory under scheme 0088, so an e-invoice addressed to 0088:GLN is delivered electronically to that company. If it is not listed, the company may still be on Peppol under a different identifier, or not at all.

How do I get a GLN for my own company?

From the GS1 member organisation of your country (GS1 Netherlands, GS1 Germany, GS1 Belgium and so on), as part of a GS1 membership. NordInvoice does not issue GLNs; it checks them and sends invoices to them.

Do I need a GLN to send e-invoices?

No. Peppol addresses a receiver by any registered identifier: VAT number, chamber of commerce number, GLN or a national business id. The GLN matters when your customer asks you to invoice a specific location, which is common in retail and healthcare.

About this tool

The GLN lookup resolves Global Location Numbers (GS1) and checks whether the location is registered as a Peppol participant. Enter a 13-digit GLN and get the registration status from the network directory.

GLNs identify companies and locations in retail and logistics supply chains. If a trading partner communicates a GLN, this tool tells you whether you can invoice them over Peppol using scheme 0088.

The lookup is free and needs no account. The same check is available through the NordInvoice participants API.
